What a way to start the New Year!
The Worship Team had practiced, the choir was ready, yesterday morning God gave me 5 questions to add to the message, Life Group leaders were prepared, and the Lindner’s even had breakfast for their Life Group class. I mean everything was in place and then the phone rang – no electricity at the church. The calls were made to AEP to see when we’d get power back and the answer was after 12:30. So we made the call to postpone church until 4:00 yesterday afternoon. We made the calls to WSET, we put it on Facebook and Instagram, but we could not alter our web page because it was locked up due to our internet system being down. I apologize if you showed up at church because you didn’t hear about our power outage, but thank you for understanding. We had a few hundred people show up for worship yesterday afternoon and we accomplished much for the Kingdom.
Those who were here responded positively to the challenge – it was just not the same as a “normal” Sunday morning.
By now you’re probably wondering if those New Year’s resolutions are worth the effort. Some of us had plans for the New Year and, like yesterday, those plans seem to be falling apart. The good news is this – God is not just a starter, He is an “ever present help in time of need”, as the writer of Hebrews would tell us. Even though things have not gone as we wanted the truth remains that God is still at work. He had a reason for cutting the electricity to the church yesterday and one day in heaven we’ll find out why, but for now we will move forward. If you missed yesterday I’ll repeat the 2018 challenge and theme in the Sundays to come. Let me encourage you to stay the course, to not give up or give in.
God is at work, and we simply need to find Him, trust Him and walk in faith.
Be in prayer for Traction this week. Tickets are sold out, however some tickets may be freed up by those whose plans have changed and will turn those back in to itickets, or simply give our door greeters their extra tickets upon arrival (we are not handling those through the office). Stay tuned for more information how you can get a ticket if you don’t have one. Pray for the ladies attending Traction that their hearts would be open to hear what God is saying. Pray for the speakers, our Worship Team, Technical Team, hundreds of volunteers, and for God to move in a mighty way. Pray for the weather, as we need dry weather because we’ll be parking cars on the soccer field. If you’d like to volunteer, just show up Saturday morning about 7:15 and we’ll find you a place to serve. We really do need help cleaning up afterwards and getting the church ready for Sunday so if you can come at 4:45 that would be a big help also.
One more very important announcement as I close – we will be having one worship service next Sunday to maximize Nicole C. Mullen’s gracious offer to stay over Sunday to sing and share. Every Life Group will meet however, those in the second hour classes will meet in the first hour. Contact your teacher to find out where you’ll be meeting. Also we’ll be taking a love offering at the close of the service for Nicole so be prepared.
So much to share because God is at work. Let’s join Him and follow His lead.
Remember the word for 2018 is Invite,
