Before we jump into our devotional for today, I want to remind you of our Movie Night this Friday. We get started at 6 will food and games, etc, and then the movie will start around 8:30-9:00. We are showing Paddington 2. Invite your friends and family to a fun night!
Also, we will need to help tear after the event. Many hands make light work!
See ya tomorrow night for a great time of fellowship and rehearsal.
Now, let’s devo…..
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. Psalm 136:1
We can search and scramble and explore the depths for reasons to give thanks and yet this verse is a beautiful reminder of this incredible simple reality – we ought to give thanks to God just because He is good. That’s it. God is good and we give thanks. We don’t need to rack our brains for reasons to be thankful when the profound eternal declaration of God’s goodness is right in front of us. And so we give thanks.
How do we know God is good? We see His love and how it’s endured from the very beginning of time. This endurance is not simply about a length of time, in the sense that His love has been constant and so it has just always been there, although that is entirely true. The endurance here is a committed, faithful, overcoming, strong and powerful love that is fighting for you. The love of God has endured through every difficulty, every struggle, every obstacle and by His love God proves Himself to be good.
So once we again we have the opportunity and the invitation to lead our church in worship and to give thanks together to our God because He is good. The songs we sing, the prays we pray, the very act of gathering itself is a reminder of the love of God enduring forever and how we have been changed by this love, now and forever.
Take 30 seconds and remember the things in your life you should be thankful for. Go.
How long is your list?
What is one example of God’s goodness in your life right now?
God of enduring love, we know that every good and perfect gift comes from You and that You are good in everything we do. We know that Your love has been enduring and constant and faithful and free since the very beginning of time. So we say together that we are thankful and we give thanks to You for who You are and what You have done. Would we know Your goodness and Your love this week as we gather with our church to worship You. Amen.
