Well the Weiser house is rejoicing this morning. Debby’s surgeon just called and said they found no active cancer in any lymph nodes tested and that chemotherapy had shrunk the tumor by a little over 70% by the time it was removed last week. Praise our Lord for answered prayers. Please continue to pray for her recovery from surgery, five months of chemo and that next week the surgeons and oncologists recommend NO radiation.

I wanted to make you aware of a mission opportunity. In November, we have a team going to Cuba for a week and they recently had two people drop out. If you are interested in going please contact Jimmy Marston at jimmymarston@gmail.com or jimmymarston@aol.com . God is at work in Cuba and they are seeing hundreds come to Christ.

Pastor Mike wanted me to pass along this very important need regarding VBS.
“VBS is now just a few days away. Here are a couple of ways you can help out. We are in need of a few more volunteers in our 4 year old classes and for two nights of crafts. We need snack donations. These items include rice crispy treats, lunch size bags of chips, and lunch size bags of cookies. Since we will do all the final shopping for VBS this weekend we will need these items by tomorrow. You can bring them with you to the church picnic on Wednesday evening or drop them off at the church office. Don’t forget to invite your friends and neighbors. Children can be registered online at hhbc.net. Lastly please pray that God will use this VBS in a night way to reach our community for Him”.

I would add to Pastor Mike’s email that I need volunteers each night to take children from the Worship Center to mom’s and dad’s cars. Simply be in the north parking lot by 8:40 p.m. each evening Monday – Thursday.

How about blessing students from China? Sarah Wood sent this:
We need host homes for Chinese kids for 6 nights (can choose boys or girls) ages 14-17. You would pick up your students on Sunday afternoon July 15 around 4 p.m. and take them home and enjoy dinner/getting to know them. They would go to Faith Christian Academy in Hurt, VA during the day Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. to study. We do have options for drop off/pick-ups at Thomas Road Baptist Church & Forest Kroger each day around 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. if that works better. Then on Saturday morning around 7:30 -8 a.m., July 21, your students will leave. You have an option of dropping them off at FCA in Hurt or Forest Kroger or Thomas Road. You are paid a stipend of $154 for taking 2 students for the 6 nights. Again, they are in school during the day so if you work, please don?t let that keep you from being a light to these students. Please contact Sarah Wood at 434-426-2428 or at HaydensMommy19@aol.com if you have additional questions or you are able to help host. You will not only be blessing these students but you will find these students will be a blessing to you! Help us reach China one student at a time.”

The year was 1885 and a special lady showed up in the harbor of New York City in June of that year. That lady is the Statue of Liberty. The Statue was built to commemorate the centennial of the American Declaration of Independence. The Statue was named “Liberty Enlightening the World” and was a joint effort between America and France. I grew up being taught that the Statue stands for liberty and freedom. However, we all know that just because there’s a Statue of Liberty in New York that does not mean everyone in America knows liberty and freedom.

Two thousand years ago Jesus arrived with praise and shouts of joy but those soon faded into the night. After three years of public ministry He hung on a cross outside the city gates of Jerusalem for everyone to see. His message was one of liberty, freedom, redemption.

While Lady Liberty has no power to free anyone, Jesus has the power to free everyone. No matter the sin, no matter the habit, no matter the way of life, in Jesus you find liberty, freedom and most important of all redemption.

Today we enjoy freedom as Americans yet today we can enjoy freedom as Believers. Just like we should never take our freedom as Americans for granted we should never forget that we are free in Christ. Enjoy celebrating our nations birthday tomorrow but celebrate your freedom in Christ every day.

MDWMD,

Pastor Carl
