I learned this truth a long time ago, “God hits straight licks with crooked sticks”. What does that mean, well the person explaining it to me said it like this, God at times uses people to speak into our lives who may be flawed or not even a Believer. He went on to say that just like God used lost kings and nations in the Old Testament from time to time to accomplish His plan, He sometimes uses people who are not believers in the same way in our lives. Fact is every teacher, preacher or speaker that you’ve heard, while believers, are flawed, a fact to keep in mind even on a Sunday.
I know that for some of you what I’ve just said may be a stretch but give it some thought. While you’re thinking let me share a quote from a person outside the faith, Judy Garland. Garland said, “Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else”. When you stop and think about it Garland has a point. God created you YOU, not someone else. He gave you gifts, talents, personality and a uniqueness that is totally yours. Yet so many times we try to make ourselves to be like someone else. We spend our time changing our looks, our dress, or our actions to mimic others. Listen the only person God challenges us to conform our lives to is Jesus. Instead of trying to be someone else be who God created you to be and move to be more like Jesus.
Remember Jesus said He the thief came steal but He came to give YOU life and to give it to YOU to the full” (John 10:10). Why not live the life He designed you to live.
Pastor Mike wanted me to pass along to you some exciting news and opportunities from our Children’s Ministry.
“Hello Church Family – This coming Sunday will be a big day for our summer campers as they raise the funds needed for scholarships. We will have two things going on.
The first is Krispy Kreme donuts. We need to sell almost 200 dozen donuts. Please stop by the tables and take a dozen or two with you. If you want to preorder, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will be glad to hold them for you. After you have eaten all of those donuts you will need some way to work off those extra calories. So you can sign up for the Colored Up 5K. This event has been a huge success over the last few years and we would like to see it grow again this year. All proceeds will fund the Austin Abernathy scholarship fund and help our summer camp program in tremendous ways. The 5K is a fun way to get exercise and help our children?s ministry. You can walk, jog, or run as all levels are seen in this race. You can register online at https://runsignup.com/Race/VA/Rustburg/ColoredUp or at the church on Sunday morning. The Colored Up 5K is scheduled for May 19 at 9:00 AM. We will have registrations at the table with the donuts. Please let me know if you haveany questions. Thanks, Pastor Mike.”
Don’t forget that we are still seeking volunteers. We need folks to be on mission in South Dakota June 9 – 15. Please contact Mark Gauthier as he’s coordinating this for us, email@example.com.
Also we are seeking teaching leadership for our Thrive College Ministry. Our current teacher will be leaving the end of May to work in our high school ministry. Let me know if you’re interested by simply replying to this email.
One last reminder, on Wednesday night you have the opportunity to come early and get a great meal from Brother Jake’s Brick Oven Pizza trailer. They have burgers, Philly cheese steak, pizza, hot dogs and more. They are here around 5:15 on Wednesday afternoon.
Enjoy the sunshine of God’s love,
